Door Lock Preparation Options

Our doors are available with several lock preparation configurations to accommodate a wide range of hardware applications, including cylindrical locks, deadbolts, exit devices, flush bolts, and mortise locks.

161 Prep

The 161 Prep is designed for cylindrical lock installations and is one of the most common door preparations available.

Features

• 2-3/4″ backset
• 2-1/8″ bore diameter
• 1-1/8″ × 2-1/4″ edge preparation for latch installation
• Compatible with most cylindrical lever and handle sets

161 Prep with Deadbolt

This option includes preparations for both:

• Cylindrical lever set
• Deadbolt mounted above the lever

Ideal for applications requiring separate locking and latching functions.

161-T Prep (Turtle Prep)

The 161-T, commonly referred to as the “Turtle Prep,” is a specialized lock preparation designed to accommodate hardware requiring a turtle-shaped mounting pattern.

Features

• 2-3/4″ backset
• Designed for compatible specialty lock hardware
• Reinforced preparation for secure installation

PBBP Prep

The PBBP Prep provides a blank door slab with an internal backing plate for mounting rim exit devices.

Features

• No face hardware preparation
• Internal reinforcement included
• Ready for field installation of rim exit devices
• Clean, uninterrupted door face appearance

Ideal for panic hardware and exit device applications.

FB/ASA Prep

Designed for inactive doors in paired-door openings, the FB/ASA Prep includes preparations for flush bolts and strikes.

Flush Bolt Preparation

• Reinforced flush bolt pocket
• ANSI A115.4 compliant preparation
• Factory-prepared mounting locations
• Designed for secure inactive door locking

ASA Strike Preparation

• Reinforced strike preparation
• ANSI A115.1 and A115.2 compliant
• Factory-drilled and tapped mounting points
• Standard strike height positioning

This prep is commonly used on inactive leaves of double-door openings.

86 Edge Mortise Pocket

The 86 Edge Mortise Pocket is designed for mortise lock installations requiring an edge-mounted lock body.

Features

• 1-1/8″ × 8″ edge preparation
• Designed specifically for mortise lock hardware
• Face preparation not included
• Special-order configuration

86 Edge Mortise Pocket with Function Holes

This option expands the standard 86 Edge Mortise Pocket by adding face-of-door function holes.

Features

• Includes mortise lock edge pocket
• Face preparation for trim and lock functions
• Hole size and location vary based on lock manufacturer and function
• Available as a special-order preparation
• Template-specific configuration

Recommended when a complete mortise lock installation is required.
