Pull Arm Operator

Key Features

  • Fully automatic low-energy swing door operation
  • Push-arm and pull-arm configurations available
  • Power-open / spring-close design
  • Adjustable opening and closing speeds
  • Adjustable hold-open time delay
  • Adjustable backcheck and latch settings
  • Push-N-Go functionality
  • Delayed activation capability
  • Electric lock compatibility
  • ANSI/BHMA compliant operation

How the Operator Works

The Benchmark operator functions as a power-open, spring-close system.

Operation Sequence

  1. Door receives an activation signal.
  2. Operator drives the door to the fully open position.
  3. Door remains open for the programmed hold-open time.
  4. Spring force returns the door to the closed position.

In the event of a power failure, the operator functions as a conventional door closer, helping protect both the door and operator from damage.

Compatible Door Types

The Benchmark Swing Operator can be installed on:

  • Butt-hinged doors
  • Offset-pivoted doors
  • Center-pivoted doors

Mounting Options

  • Push-side applications
  • Pull-side applications
  • Surface-mounted installations

Installation Requirements

Electrical Requirements

  • 115 VAC
  • Single-phase
  • 60 Hz
  • 15 Amp dedicated circuit

Wiring Recommendations

  • Use copper conductors only
  • Route wiring away from moving parts
  • Protect wiring from sharp edges and heat sources
  • Properly ground the operator using a dedicated ground conductor

Push Arm Configuration

Model 99100-9XX

The push-arm assembly is designed for applications where the operator is mounted on the push side of the door.

Minimum Door Width

26 inches

Typical Applications

  • Commercial storefronts
  • Office entrances
  • Educational facilities
  • Healthcare buildings

The push-arm version may also be used in low-ceiling installations where space restrictions prevent pull-arm use.

Pull Arm Configuration

Model 99105-9XX

The pull-arm assembly is designed for pull-side operator installations utilizing a slide track system.

Minimum Door Width

30 inches

Benefits

  • Cleaner appearance
  • Reduced projection from the door face
  • Suitable for architectural applications

Adjustable Operating Controls

The Benchmark operator provides several field-adjustable settings.

Opening Speed (P1)

Controls the speed at which the door opens.

Adjustment

Result

Clockwise

Faster

Counterclockwise

Slower

Backcheck Speed (P2)

Controls door speed near the fully open position to reduce impact and prevent slamming.

Hold-Open Time Delay (P3)

Determines how long the door remains open after activation.

Adjustment Range

  • 1 second minimum
  • 30 seconds maximum

Backcheck Position (P4)

Controls the point during opening where deceleration begins.

Adjustment

Result

Clockwise

More Backcheck

Counterclockwise

Less Backcheck

Latch Position (P5)

Determines where the door begins slowing as it approaches the closed position.

Clockwise

More Latch

Counterclockwise

Less Latch

Closing Speed (P6)

Controls closing speed of the door.

Special Operating Features

Push-N-Go

When enabled through Switch SW1-2:

  • Manual movement of approximately 3–5 degrees activates the operator.
  • The door automatically completes the opening cycle.

This feature improves accessibility and user convenience.

Delayed Activation

When enabled through Switch SW1-1:

  • Adds approximately a 1-second delay before opening.
  • Allows electric strikes, panic hardware, and electric locks time to release before door movement begins.

Operational Setup

Initial Sizing Cycle

After installation and power-up:

  1. Apply an activation signal.
  2. Door performs one complete open/close cycle.
  3. Operator automatically learns door characteristics.
  4. System becomes ready for normal operation.

If the door does not fully open during the sizing cycle, backcheck speed adjustments may be required.

Electric Lock & Accessory Integration

The Benchmark control board supports:

  • Electric locks
  • Electric strikes
  • Activation devices
  • Safety sensors
  • Auxiliary activation devices
  • Three-position control switches
