DOR-O-MATIC 4-Position Switch Wiring Conversion

This guide explains how to convert an older DOR-O-MATIC 8-wire switch configuration to a newer 3-wire cord assembly when replacing or upgrading a door control switch.

Overview

Older DOR-O-MATIC 4-position switches utilize an 8-wire configuration identified by numbered conductors. Newer replacement switches use a simplified 3-wire cord.

When replacing the older switch, the existing switch wires must be properly connected to the new 3-wire cord to maintain correct operation.

New 3-Wire Cord Identification

The replacement cord contains three wires:

  • Black
  • Red
  • Green

Before wiring, cut the cord from the replacement switch as needed to expose the three conductors.

Installation Notes

  • Verify all connections before energizing the operator.
  • Use approved wire connectors.
  • Insulate all unused conductors.
  • Route wiring away from moving door components.
  • Follow all applicable electrical and automatic door safety standards.

Applications

This conversion procedure is commonly used when:

  • Replacing obsolete DOR-O-MATIC 4-position switches
  • Upgrading older automatic door controls
  • Retrofitting Benchmark, Astro-Swing, or other legacy DOR-O-MATIC operator systems
  • Converting from an 8-wire switch harness to a modern 3-wire cord assembly

Proper wiring ensures continued operation of the door control switch while simplifying future maintenance and replacement.
