User Guide (Models: 10SSI, 10SSII, 10SSIII)
Overview
The SuperScan is a door-mounted presence detection system designed for automatic pedestrian swing doors. It works with both SMR (self-monitoring) and non-SMR systems.
Unlike traditional sensors, SuperScan modules are mounted near the top of the door for protection and durability.
Key Features
- Modular design with master + slave modules
- Adjustable detection range and angle
- Infrared triangulation detection (not color-dependent)
- Expandable coverage using additional modules
- Independent module adjustment
How It Works
Each module includes:
- Transmitter (TX): Emits a focused infrared beam (~4″ diameter at 8 ft)
- Receiver (RX): Detects reflected beam from the floor
Detection is based on triangulation:
- When the beam path is interrupted → detection occurs
- Not affected by object color or background

Safety Precautions
- Disconnect power before wiring
- Keep work area safe and clear of pedestrians
- Stop door traffic during testing
- Ensure wiring does not interfere with moving parts
- Follow ANSI A156.10 / A156.27 safety standards
Installation Overview
Mounting Guidelines
- Secure firmly to prevent vibration
- Avoid interference with door hardware
- Keep detection area clear of moving objects
Mechanical Installation (Summary)
- Remove end cap and lens
- Remove circuit boards before drilling
- Drill mounting holes and wire passage
- Mount sensor to top of door
- Route wiring through door and header
Important:
Position the unit close to the leading edge without interference.
Electrical Connections
Terminal Functions (Master Module)
| Terminal | Function |
|---|---|
| 1 | Test data (SMR only) |
| 2 | Ground |
| 3 | Input inhibit |
| 4 | NO relay |
| 5 | NC relay |
| 6 | Common |
| 7 | Power (-) |
| 8 | Power (+) |
Note: Detection is inhibited when voltage is applied to terminal 3.
Configuration & Settings
Jumper Functions
J1 – Background Analysis
- Enables environmental compensation
- Prevents failure due to poor reflectivity
- Recommended for difficult environments
J2 – Relay Mode
- Active (default): energized at rest
- Passive: de-energized at rest
J3 – SMR Mode
- Installed: SMR OFF (default)
- Removed: SMR ON
J4 – Module Configuration
- Master-only or Master + Slave setup
- Required for proper SMR operation
Detection Adjustment
Detection Zone Setup (Power-On)
- Power sensor (12–24V)
- Use an 8″×11″ test object (cardboard)
- Move object upward from floor
- Measure detection height
Recommended Settings
- Detection height: 12″–16″ above floor
- Must comply with ANSI standards (< 28″)
Adjustment Tips
- Increase range → lowers dead zone
- Decrease range → raises dead zone
- 1 notch ≈ 4″ adjustment
Module Positioning
- TX must face leading edge of door
- Modules can be flipped for door handing
- Each module can be angled independently
SMR Compatibility
- SMR master cannot be used with non-SMR slaves
- All modules must be SMR for full monitoring functionality
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
No power / no LED
- Check power supply (12–24V)
- Verify wiring at terminals
Wrong relay behavior
- Check J2 relay configuration
Door stops unexpectedly
- Sensor detecting wall or object
- Adjust angle or detection range
Constant detection
- Sensor seeing floor or obstruction
- Reduce detection range
Erratic behavior
- Check wiring continuity
- Inspect door transfer cable
Accessories
- Isolation Relay (PN: 10REL24V)
- Quick Disconnect Cable (PN: 10SSQD)
- Interface Module (PN: 10BR3)
Compliance
- Follow AAADM inspection guidelines
- Perform daily safety checks
- Annual inspection recommended
- Ensure proper operation before use
