Upgrade Your Astro-Slide: Meet the Dor-O-Matic 70588 Control Box
Dor-O-Matic continues its commitment to high-tech door solutions with the 70588-9XX Micro Computer Control Box. Designed specifically for Astro-Slide systems, this control box utilizes the latest computer technology to enhance performance and safety.
Key Features of the 70588 Control Box
The 70588 model introduces several smart features aimed at simplifying maintenance and improving the user experience:
- Automatic Resizing: The system eliminates the need for a manual resizing cycle if a door or panel is broken away; the door will stop and then reclose slowly before returning to normal operation.
- Auto-Reset Capability: After a jam or safety shutdown, the control box resets automatically when the door is reactivated, removing the need to cycle the power.
- Smooth Operation: Improved “Stop and Reverse” action provides a much smoother transition if the door is reactivated during its closing cycle.
- Energy-Wise Mode: An optional switch allows the door to open to only 75% of its full width to conserve energy, though it will automatically adjust to 100% if traffic flow increases.
Versatility and Compatibility
The 70588 control box is highly versatile, supporting single door openings from 15″ to 8′ and bi-parting pairs from 30″ to 16′. It serves as an exact replacement for previous models on units using the Hall Effect door position sensor.
Note: This model is not compatible with earlier Astro-Slide units equipped with a rotary switch door position assembly.
Installation at a Glance
Setting up the 70588 is designed to be straightforward with polarized Molex connectors that prevent incorrect wiring. Once power is turned on and the door is activated, the computer automatically calibrates:
- Sizing Cycle: The door opens fully and closes slowly while the computer sets the opening, back check, closing, and latching positions.
- Normal Mode: After this initial slow cycle, the system automatically switches to normal operating speed.
Maintenance Tip: Watch for “Binding”
Dor-O-Matic notes that nearly half of all field problems are caused by a “binding” door—conditions that make the door sluggish or erratic. Common culprits include:
- Debris like rocks or dirt in the guide track.
- Weather stripping or extra sweeps added to the door.
- Environmental factors like ice build-up or floor expansion due to heat.
For reliable, long-term operation, it is essential to ensure the door moves freely without obstruction.
